PURPOSE: A device for controlling steering force for a power steering is provided to smoothly lighten steering operations for a steering wheel in low speed and make the steering operations heavy in high speed by applying proper friction reaction force on a column of the power steering according to the change of speed. CONSTITUTION: In a power steering having a column for receiving the rotary power of a steering wheel, a device for controlling steering force for the power steering is composed of a speed sensor(41) for detecting the speed of a vehicle; an ECU(Electronic Control Unit,40) for transmitting control signals by the detected value of the speed sensor; a controller(50) operated by the control signal of the ECU to variably adjust the intensity of electric current; and a steering force control unit(60) controlled by the intensity of current supplied from the controller to act friction reaction force on a shaft(22) of the column. The steering force control unit includes first and second coil units(61a,61b) wound with coil receiving current in the opposite direction and first and second friction units(62a,62b) integrally formed with the first and second coil units and closely contacted to an outer diameter of the column shaft to act friction force in supplying electric power.
