An improved safety utility knife (Fig. 1) has a hollow handle (10) and a bla de (32) which is normally retracted within the handle (10), but can be extended by squeezing an operating lever (22). The lever (2 2) is connected to the blade holder (28) by a toggle linkage (36, 38) having a rearmost pin (42) secured in a discrete mount (44) whose positi on is adjustable. A thumbscrew (58) threaded into the mount (44) enables one to adjust the position of the mount (44) from outside the handle (10), and thus change how far the blade (32) protrudes from the handle (10) when the operating lever (22) is fully depressed.</SDOA B>
