PURPOSE: A method for transmitting short messages in large quantities and a system therefor are provided to transmit short messages to a plurality of receivers at the same time through a public switched telephone network by transmitting a receiving number connected with a preliminarily designated group number in a short message to a transmission system and to send short messages different in a specific part to a plurality of receivers by merging contents of the short messages and receiver information. CONSTITUTION: A member inputs a receiver group number and an input number of a transmission system(100) to a member terminal to send a short message to a plurality of receivers. The member terminal connects to the transmission system(100) through a public switched telephone network. A user information management module(104) compares a telephone number of the member terminal with member information stored on a member information database(106) to confirm whether the user of the member terminal is a proper member. If the confirmation is terminated, the member inputs contents of the short message. A short message management module(110) stores the contents of the short message on a short message database(112). A short message server(114) transmits the short message to a plurality of receiver terminals through the general switched telephone network. A merging module(116) changes a specific part of the short message by merging the specific part and receiver information.
