PURPOSE: A panoramic apparatus and a method for automatically photographing a subject are provided to automatically and panoramically photograph the subject by using an electric compass even if the subject is positioned out of an incident angle of a camera lens. CONSTITUTION: A panoramic apparatus for automatically photographing a subject includes an electric compass(120) for detecting a direction. A camera(150) is provided to automatically photograph a subject whenever the camera(150) rotates by a predetermined angle according to direction information of the electric compass(120). A controlling device(100) controls the camera(150) for automatically photographing the subject on the basis of the direction information of the electric compass(120). A memory device(130) stores a panorama picture photographed by the camera(150) according to a control of the controlling device(100).
