PURPOSE: A shift lever for an electronically controlled automatic transmission is provided to easily change a shift mode and a shift level of the transmission by sliding axially or turning vertically a movable knob. CONSTITUTION: A shift lever for controlling a shift mode and a shift level of an automatic transmission for controlling electronically the shift level is composed of a rod(2) installed at a steering column to rotate gradually in longitudinal and vertical directions; a fixed knob(1) combined with a front end of the rod; and a movable knob(3) combined to slide gradually in the axial direction for the fixed knob. The shift mode is changed by the gradual sliding of the movable knob and the shift level is changed by the gradual rotation of the rod. A toggle switch(5) is disposed in the front end of the movable knob and operated by a driver to turn on/off a parking brake in an electronic control method.
