The process involves utilizing an exchanger (10) for cooling a fraction of air coming from a compressor (8). A collector (14) receives the air from the exchanger. A bypass leads another fraction of air from the compressor towards the collector. The airflow in the exchanger and the bypass is regulated, such that temperature of the air in the collector approaches a predetermined value. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine.
