A method for preventing neutrophils from adhering to endothelial cells in a non-human mammal, comprising administering to the non-human mammal an anti-inflammatory factor at a dose to prevent the adherence, where the factor is produced by the following process: a) removing the fat from the milk of a milk-producing animal to produce skimmed milk; b) filtering the skimmed milk to retain molecules with molecular weights of greater than 10,000 daltons; c) fractionating the filtrate by ion-exchange chromatography so as to produce ion exchange fractions enriched with the factor; d) purifying the factor by gel filtration; and e) purifying the factor from the gel by affinity chromatography. |
