Disclosed is an aromatized soluble coffee powder that includes at least 0.60 equivalent ìg/g furans and at least 0.40 equivalent ìg/g diketones. The coffee powder may be prepared by a process comprising: (a) providing a slurry of coffee grounds in a aqueous liquid, (b) stripping aroma components from the slurry using gas in a substantially counter-current manner for providing an aromatized gas containing aroma components, (c) collecting the aroma components from the aromatized gas, (d) extracting soluble coffee solids from coffee grounds and concentrating the extracted soluble coffee solid for providing a concentrated coffee extract, (e) combining the concentrated coffee extract and the collected aroma components for providing an aromatized extract, (f) drying the aromatized extract for providing the aromatized coffee powder.
