The device has a capacitive sensor (5) and a tightness unit. A target unit is coaxial with a sensor support (6). The target unit and the support are connected to respective anchoring units (3b,3a) by corresponding spherical plain bearing rod ends (7b,7a) and hinges (14b,14a). The sensor measures a relative movement of the target unit with respect to the support, where the measurement is a measure of deformation of a wall. The target unit includes a target (8) and a bar (30) and the tightness unit has sealing gel (13), screws (21, 22a, 22b), O-rings (20, 23, 25, 28) and a wiper seal (29). Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method of installing wall deformation measuring device (b) a method of measuring deformation of a wall.
