PURPOSE: A sub-picture display method when trick play is carried out is provided to selectively decode a value corresponding to a reproducing period of each sub-picture and display the sub-picture based on the decoded value, to thereby provide lots of information about a trick play period to a user when the DVD(Digital Versatile Disc) is played in a trick mode. CONSTITUTION: A video pack in a video object unit of a DVD is selectively read at an interval corresponding to N times a normal play speed, decoded and displayed. It is determined whether a sub-picture pack in the video object unit of the DVD is decoded or not. The sub-picture pack is decoded and displayed for a predetermined display period.
