The method involves measuring a loop delay using a flow accelerator server (4) corresponding to duration between sending of data packet and receiving of corresponding acknowledgment. The server signals that data flow is higher than available bandwidth and lower than the available bandwidth, if it respectively detects a progressive increase and decrease of the delay after a stability period of the delay. An independent claim is also included for a transmission device for implementing an available bandwidth evaluating method.
