PURPOSE: Provided are a lithium ion secondary battery having improved energy density, and a manufacturing method thereof with higher production yield. CONSTITUTION: The lithium secondary battery comprises container; and an electrode body including a positive electrode plate(100) and a negative electrode plate, each of which is inserted in the container and is composed of an active material-coated part(110) and a tab(120) uncoated with the active material and protruded upward from top end, and separators(200,200') which separate the positive electrode plate(100) and the negative electrode plate, and contains an electrolytic solution. The separators(200, 200') are disposed on the front and the rear of the positive electrode plate(100), respectively. A junction(210) between the front separator(200) and the rear separator(200') form a band having a width of 0.1-2mm which is surrounding the right/left side end and the lower outside of the positive electrode plate(100).
