The method involves determining a minimum distance among all distances calculated between a sample of a finite size digital signal and a group having another sample and its copies. The copies are obtained by rotating the latter sample based on a preset angle and with respect to a rotation axis determined based on a signal size or by symmetric movement of the latter sample with respect to a symmetrical axis. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method for coding a digital signal (b) a method for decoding a digital signal (c) a device for determining a path of a digital signal (d) a device for coding a digital signal (e) a device for decoding a digital signal (f) an apparatus for processing a digital image.
