The roof has movable front and rear panels (10, 20) that are movable along longitudinal axis of a motor vehicle (1) in opposite directions between a lower deployed position and two high retracted positions. The panels are aligned horizontally in a same plane in the lower deployed position. A rail, a longitudinal groove, and a tipper guide the panels between the positions. The front panel (10) is placed on the top of the rear panel (20) after sliding towards the rear, in one high retracted position. The rear panel is placed on the top of the front panel (10) after sliding towards the front, in other high retracted position. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle.
