PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data compression recording device in which the compressibility of each data to be recorded can be set appropriately in accordance with recording residual quantity of a recording medium. SOLUTION: A processing control part generates a compressibility table, and compressibility of each music is set provisionally to 0% (step A12). The processing control part calculates total required quantity of data by Nth music in accordance with each compressibility. The processing control part adds 1 to a variable N (step S15) and returns processing to a step 13 when total required quantity is the recording residual quantity or less. On the other hand, when it is discriminated that total required quantity is larger than the recording residual quantity, the processing control part reviews successively compressibility of music specified by the present variable N and music having the smaller number than it (stepS18, S19, etc.).
