PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To devise the reduction of working labors and the improvement of working efficiency, enhance flexibility and generality for the number of milking units, and contrive the reduction of cost and the improvement of an assembling property due to the commonness of parts and assembling methods. SOLUTION: The subject method for automatically conveying the milking unit is characterized by disposing each detection portion 6 capable of being switched on a detectable side or a non-detectable side in response to each branched rail 3, preliminarily switching the detection portion 6 into the detectable side, allowing the approach of the milking unit on a branched rail 3 corresponding to the detected detection portion 6 under a condition that the detection portion 6 is detected, when an arbitrary milking unit 5 travels on a main rail 2, and switching the detection portion 6 into the non-detectable side, when the detection portion 6 is once detected.
