PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium including: a substrate for a magnetic recording medium which has a favorable adhesion property which can withstand planarization processing such as polishing, and can be made a thick film in forming a film on an Si substrate, a soft magnetic layer, and a recording layer. SOLUTION: As a result of repeated researches for a magnetic recording layer which includes: a substrate for a magnetic recording medium which has an adhesion property for an Si substrate and can be made a thick film; and soft magnetic layer and a recording layer, it is found that in order to attain the above objective, it is effective to make the underlaying plated layer a thin film containing metal and Si oxide in the substrate for a magnetic recording medium which includes an Si substrate, a underlaying plated layer and a soft magnetic layer on the Si substrate. Especially, it is found that a underlying plated layer having a larger metallic concentration is effective as it comes away from an Si substrate face. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
