PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preserving plants, particularly a method for retaining freshness of fresh flower, in which fresh conditions (growth, retention conditions, etc.) of the plants are inexpensively retained for a long period in large effect after being picked without requiring special facilities as in the case of growth, retaining, and the like of fruits and fresh flower or cattage are readily. SOLUTION: The method for preserving plants uses at least one kind of inorganic antimicrobial agent of a complex metal oxide or a complex metal hydroxide containing at least one kind of metal ion selected from Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn or the method for preserving plants uses at least one kind of inorganic antimicrobial agent of a complex metal oxide or a complex metal hydroxide containing Cu ion an/or Zn ion.
