Pushrod unit forming part of a machine tool automated tool change system slides axially but does not rotate within a shaft

An assembly fixes a tool on a machine tool shaft. The shaft has an internal axial sliding rod to arrest the advance of a tool fixed to the shaft, e.g. during an automated tool change. The pushrod (1) is able to slide axially but not rotate within the shaft. The pushrod has an outer thread (4) that engages with a surrounding plug with a corresponding inner thread (6). During the tool change the pushrod is advanced or withdrawn by rotation of the threaded section (5) within the shaft (12).
