The method employs solid or hollow columns to support the dam. Each column has an end cap for protection against damage during driving-in, e extension sleeves for adaptation to dam height independent of fabrication length of the columns, and driving-in tip at the bottom, to ease setting. The columns are driven through the dam body and its foundations. They are set parallel to and/or at right angles to, the central dam line, at regular or irregular relative distances, and different angles. Planks or panels may cover the dam crown and the top of the columns, to provide access, and contain cables, pipes, etc. for monitoring etc.
