AUTHENTICATION METHOD, AND INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To communicate with a regular communicating party by authenticating each other in a plurality of information processing apparatuses. SOLUTION: An R/W 1 transmits to an IC card 2 a cipher C1resulting from encrypting a random number RAwith a key KB. The IC card 2 decrypts the cipher C1with the key KBinto a plaintext M1. The IC card 2 transmits to the R/W 1 a cipher C2resulting from encrypting the plaintext M1with a key KAand a cipher C3resulting from encrypting a random number RBwith the key KA. The R/W 1 decrypts the ciphers C2, C3into plaintexts M2and M3by using the key KA. The R/W 1 authenticates the IC card 2 when it is judged that the plaintext M2and the random number RAare identical. The R/W 1 then transmits to the IC card 2 a cipher C4resulting from encrypting the plaintext M3by using the key KB. The IC card 2 decrypts the cipher C4into a plaintext M4by using the key KB.
