PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination apparatus capable of improving reflection efficiency of light diffused to the rear side from a bulb, and of reducing the cost of a mirror, and using microwave energy. SOLUTION: This illumination apparatus using microwave energy is equipped with: a magnetron 30 installed in a casing 10 for generating microwave energy; a waveguide 40 for guiding the microwave energy; a resonator 50 with a resonance region for making the microwave energy resonate; the bulb 60 installed in the resonator 50 and filled with a substance emitting light while being excited by the microwave energy; and a rear-side mirror 75 integrally fixed on the rear side of the bulb 60 for reflecting light diffused to the rear side from the bulb 60 toward the front side.
