A strainer lock apparatus, system and method for installing and removing a strainer in a sink or tub. A first member has a top end with a locking mechanism that can include a slot. The mechanism is inserted into apertures of the strainer. The first member can be rotated, resulting in retainer bars of the strainer being inserted and secured in the slot of the locking mechanism. The first member can then hang freely from the cross members, secured by the locking mechanism. A second member with a threaded lock attached thereto is placed over the first member. A portion of the bottom end of the first member extends past the bottom end of the second member. An end piece is attached to the extended portion of the first member, thereby preventing the second member from falling from the first member. The second member and lock are brought into contact with the threaded surface of the top strainer section and rotated around the first member. The lock is then secured to the plumbing component, and a surface of the sink tub is secured between a flange of the strainer and a face of the lock.
