A brush stock 13 is formed with a tapering dovetail groove 12 co-operable with an enlarged profiled handle portion 14, the handle having a portion 15 of reduced cross-section relative to the portion 14. A retaining ring 16, e.g. of rubber or plastics, is provided and, if the end of the portion 14 extends beyond the stock when the latter is positioned on the handle, additional fastening means may be provided on that end.
