PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately detect the brightness of an object image even when the fine area of high luminance is extended over a plurality of areas. SOLUTION: In an electronic endoscope device provided with a video scope having an image pickup element and a processor, a dimmer circuit 23 for adjusting the brightness of a displayed object image is provided. The area of the entire object image is divided and five division areas are set. Then, peak values are detected for the respective areas and the peak value of the entire object image is detected.
