PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder which can record without the margin to the end of a recording medium, and can minimize the amount of a recording liquid applied off the edge of the recording medium. SOLUTION: A paper detection sensor 10 of a light reflection type arranged in the downstream of the subscanning direction of a recording head 121 detects the position of both ends in the width direction (main scanning direction) of a paper (rolled paper) P by allowing a carriage 122 to move in the main scanning direction. At the time of frameless printing, a printing range (ink delivery tolerance) A is set, which range A extends to the outside by a distance x from the detected position of the both ends. When the position of the both ends of the paper P cannot be located by the paper detection sensor 10 due to the influence of printed images to the amount of light reflection from the paper P, a wider printing range B is set, wherein a larger margin distance y is added to the position of the both ends when the paper P is assumed to be in an ideal position with neither tilting nor deviation of the width.
