Disclosed are 2-(amino or substituted amino)-5-(substituted oxymethyl)-pheno l compounds according to the Formula (I). Also, compositions for the oxidative dyeing of keratin fibers, comprising a medium suitable for dyeing and a compound of the Formula (II), as defined herein. The substituents of both formulae may themselves be substituted or unsubstituted. Further, methods fo r oxidative dyeing of keratin fibers, comprising applying such compositions in the presence of an oxidizing agent, for a period which is sufficient to develop the desired coloration.
