PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately switch existence and absence of backlash picking operation corresponding to photographing circumstances in a picture inputting apparatus such as a digital camera. SOLUTION: The picture inputting apparatus is provided with a mode selection means 60 by which one kind of mode among two or more kinds of photographing modes is alternatively inputted, a temperature detecting means 70 for detecting internal temperature of a camera 100, an operation input means 80 for inputting photographing operation, an input pattern detection means 90 for detecting input pattern of the photographing operation to the operation input means 80 and an auto focus controlling means 50 which chooses one auto focus operation corresponding to the input pattern detected by the input pattern detection means 90 among two kinds of auto focus operations and further chooses execution or omission of backlash operation corresponding to combination of inputted photographing mode, detected temperature and chosen auto focus operation.
