PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine cooling water passage structure for improving the performance of an engine by reducing a difference in temperature between the combustion chambers of cylinders to improve the knocking limit and volume efficiency of the whole engine. SOLUTION: Cooling water passages 6, 7 on the sides of a cylinder head 3 and a cylinder block 2 are solely communicated at their rearmost portions with each other via a water hole 26 of a head gasket 21. Cooling water is introduced into the cooling water passage 6 of the cylinder head 3 from the front side and distributed to the rear side without diversion to the side of the cylinder block 2, and then it is guided through the water hole 26 to the cooling water passage 7 on the side of the cylinder block 2.
