PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that has high reading accuracy. SOLUTION: The image reader comprises upper and lower units which are openable and closable with an original transport path as a boundary. The upper unit has an image reading part, such as a contact image sensor for reading an original image, and the lower limit has a means for transporting an original and ejecting paper. The image reading part is made movable in the direction of transporting an original, the direction of transporting an original and a perpendicular direction are regulated, and an engaging part provided in the upper unit is engaged with an original transport roller arranged at the lower unit to thereby position the upper unit and the lower unit. The upper unit engaging part is formed of a fixing member for fixing a contact image sensor to the upper unit or the housing of the contact image sensor. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
