PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synchronous meshing mechanism different from the conventional one in operation. SOLUTION: A roller 7 held by a retainer 6 is disposed between an engagement outer surface part 21 of a prime mover side rotating member 2 and an engagement inner surface part 41 of a driven side rotating member 4. The mechanism is provided with a shift fork 9 for driving the axial reciprocating movement of a relay member 8 with a gear 82 engaging with a gear 42. On the basis of the engagement of a pin 81 of the relay member with a through groove 62 of the retainer 81, in the axial direction, the relay member separates the roller from one of the outer and inner surface parts of engagement when it is in a first position, brings the roller into contact with both of the outer and inner surface parts of engagement when it is in a second position, and separates the roller from one of the outer and inner surface parts of engagement when it is in a third position. In the process in which the relay member is moved from the first position to the second position and from the second position to the first position, meshing of the gears 82, 42 is started and meshing of the gears is released.
