The switchable points (4) for an overhead conveyor unit has a guide rail element constructed as a switchable points segment (20) which in a first position connects two consecutive guide rail sections (2a,2b) as an intermediate piece to guide the carried load from one section to the other. The points segment is translationally movable back and forth, especially in a straight line, between the first and second position along a switching track extending with a direction component at right angles to the first conveying run between the guide rail sections. An independent claim is included for an overhead conveyor unit equipped with the proposed switching points.
