An improved system (102) for transferring heat, utilizing diols, specificall y 1,3-propanediol (PDO). The system reduces the energy consumption, maintenanc e costs, corrosion, toxicity, and the risk of the fire associated with such he at- dependent processes (106). Unlike traditional hydrocarbon heating fluids, diols do not require draining and replacement if a purifier (118) is install ed in the system. Business methods are also disclosed.
