A vehicle disablement device (320) disables a vehicle (310) if a payment has not been received prior to a payment due deadline. The vehicle (310) can als o be disabled if it is determined that the vehicle disablement device (32) is being tampered with. Disablement of the vehicle (31) occurs by transmission of a wireless signal from a vehicle disablement device (320) to a relay in a power control panel (220). The disablement can also occur by transmission of a second wireless signal from a tamper disabler (or a tamper receiver 350), to a relay in the power control panel (220). The critical system (330) of the vehicle (310) that can be disabled by the vehicle disablement device (320) c an be the same or a different critical system (330) as that which can be disabl ed by the tamper disabler (or a tamper receiver 350).
