<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device which suppresses needless coloring and has a simpler structure. <P>SOLUTION: A super twisted nematic (STN) type liquid crystal device is provided with: a first transparent substrate 2 on a viewing side; a second transparent substrate 8 on the side opposite to the viewing side; a liquid crystal layer 4 interposed between the substrates; and a transflective film 7 disposed on the surface on the liquid crystal layer side of the second transparent substrate. The transflective film consists of a dielectric multilayer film which is so constituted that the transflective film presents, when the light of the backlight passes the transflective film, a color which is complementary to a color that ambient light presents when the ambient light is made incident on the transflective film from the first transparent substrate 2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
