PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reproduction method by which the absolute amount of noise is reduced and S/N in human hearing sense can be improved when variable speed reproduction is performed without changing a musical interval. SOLUTION: A reproducing device is provided with: a first inverse conversion processing means for performing inverse conversion processing from a frequency region to a time base region for a spectrum signal restored from a reproduced compression signal by a restoring means; and a second inverse conversion processing means for performing overlap processing for variable speed reproduction and performing inverse conversion processing from the frequency region to the time base region for the restored spectrum signal. It is discriminated whether a normal reproduction mode is selected or the variable speed reproduction mode is selected, and a switching means of the first inverse conversion processing and that of the second inverse conversion processing is switched on the basis of the discrimination result.
