PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a disk drive unit having a structure where at least a read-write head housing space and space in a disk cartridge are kept clean irrespective of existence of loaded disk cartridge. SOLUTION: In this disk drive unit 200, a partition (docking wall) 242 is set up between the read-write head housing space Sh and a loading space Sd where the disk cartridge 100 is loaded. In the disk drive unit, an aperture 241 for head access and an opening and closing door 243 which opens and closes it to a part of the partition 242 is set, and when the disk cartridge 100 is loaded in the loading space Sd, a head access aperture 122 of the disk cartridge 100 is contacted closely with the aperture 241 for head access to prevent a recording medium D in the disk cartridge 100 and the read-write head H from being contaminated with dust, gas etc. The disk drive unit is constituted of a structure which prevent the dust and gas from invading from outside by closing the aperture 241 for head access with the opening and closing door 243 when the disk cartridge 100 is not loaded.
