PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter which is little in the fluctuation in signal transmission efficiency and is composed of an inexpensive and simple configuration. SOLUTION: A lens 4 converts the light emitted from a light emitting element 3 to parallel beams of light nearly parallel to the optical axis of an optical fiber 2 and couples the parallel beams of light to the optical fiber. The positional relations of the light emitting element 3, the lens 4 and the optical fiber 2 are so set that the area of the light spot generated at the end surface of the optical fiber 2 by the parallel beams of light is made larger than the area of a core section at the end surface of the optical fiber 2.
