PURPOSE: A vehicle rollover detecting device and a method are provided to estimate exactly rollover by regarding information about the rollover generated by a behavior change of a traveling vehicle and detected by sensors and the change of load acting on a strut tower bar by a strain gauge. CONSTITUTION: A vehicle rollover detecting device is composed of a strut tower bar of which both ends are combined with left and right shock absorbers to connect the shock absorbers; a strain gauge(18) installed in the center of the strut tower bar to detect the change of load acting on the strut tower bar during traveling; a lateral G sensor(10) for detecting the lateral acceleration change of the vehicle during traveling and calculating the change of the lateral angular velocity; a steering angle sensor(14) for detecting the steering angle change of the vehicle; and a wheel speed sensor(12) for detecting RPM(Revolution Per Minute) change of a vehicle wheel during traveling. The rollover detecting device decides the rollover of the vehicle by signals input from the strain gauge, the lateral G sensor, the steering angle sensor, and the wheel speed sensor.
