<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gate passage control device which satisfies both convenience and security of gate passage without using a composite IC card. <P>SOLUTION: According to the gate passage control device, when an owner number 5c and a code number 5d are input through a manual input device 6e, a control section 7 determines wither or not both the numbers are authentic, and if the numbers are authentic, corresponding usability information 5b is set to a "usable state". Then if the usability information 5b corresponding to a card number 5a read by a microwave IC card reader 4 is set to the "usable state", the control section 7 raises a gate passage permission signal 7a. Thus an unauthentic owner of the microwave IC card, who cannot input the owner identifier and the code number, is inhibited from passing the gate, to thereby improve the security of the gate. The gate passage control device allows a passenger carrying the microwave IC card to pass the gate with his hands free before a set time, and therefore the convenience of the gate passage is improved.
