PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image of high picture quality while keeping both of transfer blur and transfer dust to an unrecognizable level. SOLUTION: A transfer roller is pressed to a photoreceptor at 0.2 to 2 [N/mm<SP>2</SP>] transfer pressure. By pressing the transfer roller to the photoreceptor under high pressure, the frictional force between the transfer roller and the photoreceptor increases to make both of the transfer roller and the photoreceptor rotate together at the same velocity. This eliminates shear force on the toner layer between the photoreceptor and the transfer roller and suppresses transfer blur. Or, as the transfer roller is brought into contact with the photoreceptor under high pressure, aggregation force of the toner in the transfer nip part is increased to prevent transfer dust.
