PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable device which is equipped with a power saving cholesteric liquid crystal display part for the purpose of displaying for a long time. SOLUTION: The portable device 1 which has the cholesteric liquid crystal display part consists of a power supply unit 11 to output an operational voltage, a memory unit 12 to memorize a plurality of picture data, the cholesteric liquid crystal display part 13 with a display function, a display control unit 14 to control a display operation of the cholesteric liquid crystal display part and a power control switch 16 connected between the power supply unit 11 and the cholesteric liquid crystal display part 13. In the case the control switch of the portable device is in the off state, that is, in the state no power is supplied from the power supply unit to the cholesteric liquid crystal display part, the cholesteric liquid crystal display part displays a picture of the picture data which had been displayed before the control switch was turned off, thereby enabling the display operation extending over a long time and obtaining power saving effect.
