PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display having less visual angle dependence and high display quality. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display is provided with a first substrate 1, slits 6 formed at a pixel electrode 4, a second substrate 8 on which a transparent electrode is formed, protrusions 12 formed on the second substrate 8, an auxiliary protrusion 17 formed on the same surface of the protrusions 12 along the edge part of the pixel electrode 4, alignment layers 7 and 13 laminated on both substrates 1 and 8, respectively, a liquid crystal layer 14 interposed between both substrates 1 and 8, a first polarizing plate 15 disposed on the first substrate 1 and a second polarizing plate 16 disposed on the second substrate 8 and having a transmission axis orthogonal to the transmission axis of the first polarizing plate 15. The slits 6 and the protrusions 12 are disposed in axially symmetrical shapes in an adjacent pixels in vertical and horizontal directions. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
