PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detector for a resolver capable of detecting abnormality of the resolver, by simple circuit constitution. SOLUTION: An excitation signal f(t) comprising a prescribed frequency is impressed from an excitation signal output circuit 9 to the resolver 1, two output signals (t)sinθ, (t)cosθamplitude-modulated in response to an axial angleθ(electric angle) of the resolver 1 are output, and a sinθand a cosθare found by synchronization-detecting the two signals with the excitation signal f(t). The sinθand the cosθare input respectively in a comparator 15, and levels of the sinθand the cosθare determined with respect to a prescribed threshold value 16, so as to be converted respectively into a sinθside rectangular wave signal and a cosθside rectangular wave signal. The rectangular wave signals are input into a CPU 12, duty ratios and periods of the rectangular wave signals are measured by the CPU 12, and the abnormality is determined based thereon.
