The profiled edge of one panel element (2) has either a groove or tongue on its edge (12) for engaging in the reciprocal tongue or groove on the edge (14) of a second panel element (4). Each edge profile has a withdrawal resistance, whereby a layer of adhesive (26,34) is applied to the surfaces (20,22) of the groove and to the surfaces (28,30) of the tongue and the connection is additionally provided with a mechanical means of locking by way of a wire nail (36) fitted at an angle in the lower cheek of the groove, penetrating its bottom surface (22).
