PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drastically reduce the power consumption for reactive charge and discharge to and from a panel by the sustain discharge pulse of a plasma display device as compared to heretofore. SOLUTION: The device is provided with an address driver circuit 11 for writing display data to an address electrode of a plasma display panel 10, a scan driver circuit 12 for scanning the display electrode, a sustain circuit for causing the sustain discharge of the display electrode, and a means for monitoring the presence or absence of writing to the display electrode, and is so constituted as to stop the discharge sustain pulse for the display electrode having no writing, i.e., having no display discharge. As a result, the reactive charge and discharge to and from the panel are eliminated and power consumption can be reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
