PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical zoom mechanism and a camera provided with a reduction gear which can be sufficiently incorporated even for small-sized camera and thin camera. SOLUTION: In the reduction gear, a rotation shaft rod 44d having gears 44c, 44e on both end parts of the rod is disposed, a first reduction gear group is constituted by the gear 44c of the rotation shaft rod 44d and a reduction gear 44b, a second reduction gear group is constituted by the gear 44e of the rotation shaft rod 44d and reduction gears 44f, 44g, and the reduction gear 44b of the first reduction gear group is engaged with a pinion 44a of a zooming motor 26 and the reduction gear 44g of the second reduction gear group is engaged with a gear 75 of a zooming cam 25.
