PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a target detector capable of detecting a target to be detected of every kind such as a pathogenic substance, a living body substance, a toxic substance and the like with high sensitivity while reducing a measuring error by effectively suppressing non-specific adsorption and capable of also measuring the same efficiently, simply and quantitatively, and a target detecting base material suitably used in the detector. SOLUTION: This target detecting base material is constituted so as not only to radiate irradiated light as interfering light but also to change the wavelength of the interfering light after the interaction with the target and has a light interfering base material, a target interaction part enabling the interaction with the target and the selective holding layer provided between the light interfering base material and the target interaction part and capable of selectively holding the target interaction part. The peak shift of the peak top of interfering light, before and after the selective holding layer is treated at 32°C for 3 hr using a 1.5μM avidin aqueous solution, is preferably 2 nm or below.
