PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus which is capable of high-resolution and high-speed reading, and is inexpensive. SOLUTION: A first line sensor 50B detects a blue component b, and has a first resolution (300 dpi). A second line sensor 50R detects a red component r, and has the first resolution. A third line sensor 50Y detects a luminance component Y, and has a second resolution (600 dpi) higher than the first resolution. A resolution converting section 22 converts the resolutions of the blue and red components B' and R' which have been amplified by an amplifier 20 into the second resolution, respectively. An adder 26 adds the red and blue components-R, -B which have been reversed in reversing amplifiers 24, 25 to the luminance component Y to generate a green component G having the second resolution.
