PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defective color area correction method and processing program for more easily and surely correcting the defective color area in various images photographed under various photographing conditions, and to provide an image processing apparatus capable of running the defective color area correction processing program. SOLUTION: A personal computer 1 reads image data wherein a red-eye takes place, and displays the image on a monitor 3. The personal computer 1 sets a point with an interval d on the displayed image, and a complexion color area is set around that point when that point displays a complexion color. It is judged whether or not a pixel inside the complexion color area is contained in the red-eye area, searches for the edges (borders) of the red-eye area from the point judged to be contained in the red-eye area as the start point, and particularizes the area corresponding to the red-eye area. The personal computer unifies the color information of each of RGB color components of each pixel in the particularized area at those minimum values to correct the color of the area into a gray color.
